LOVE

Okay so I have to follow up to that romantic We post…it seems only fair, yet I am not nearly as skilled as others, so I had to resort to videos. That and with Valentine’s Day tomorrow too ;)

Two of the most romantic songs/videos…ever

It is apparent that I am severely overwhelmed with keeping up to date on my blog…apologies!!

I am currently reading Ashley Judd’s memoir, All That’s Bitter and Sweet, which is riveting and powerful…and a deep read, so it seems to be taking me forever.

Of course Betty White’s memoir, If You Ask Me, looks like a must read. As well as Freedom Riders by Raymond Arsenault…both added to my To Read List.

Music:

I have something, stressful, coming up. Tomorrow actually, so I have gotten out my “inspiration book” so to speak. I only pull it out every once in a while…

Frankly it is not something I tell mostfew…okay like two people know about it (I am too old for these childish hobbies!!), but I figure since you take the time to visit my blog, you probably know more about me than most in the first place.

I love Faith Hill. I don’t know her personally, yet I love her. She inspires me. Yes this weird, especially given that I have never meet her.

I have been privileged to attend many of her concerts:

  • Soul2Soul Tour 2000
  • Faith Hill – Whistler 2004
  • Soul2Soul II – 2006
  • Soul2Soul Tour – 2007

While most have been with her husband, Tim McGraw, there is still her sole set at each of the Soul2Soul concerts. Anyway, I am getting off track…massively.

I have a scrapbook, an inspiration book…of Faith Hill. Ranging from magazine clippings to her fan club letters and Christmas cards. You can find a few of the magazines she has graced the covers of, sitting right next to the scrapbook on the shelf. I have been collecting stuff since 1999 – 2000.

My Faith Hill scrapbook

In a way the scrapbook is a reminder to me…that life can be what we make it…to go after dreams, too feel beautiful no matter what, to speak your mind…

But really, on days when I have lost hope in myself, it’s a reminder that Faith Hill is a strong woman. And that reminds me of my mom, and gets me thinking how strong my mom was, and how  much she could have accomplished (more so than she had) and how many people she touched in her shortened life.

I often wonder if they might have had some similarities. Frankly that is where it stands for both my mom and Faith Hill, because I never really got to know my mom, and I only know Faith Hill through the eyes of a media lens.

We all love someone we don’t actually know…and somehow that can inspire us when we need it the most.

Maybe I should change my “Book List” to something like “Reading Once I Retire!” In any case…here are the ones I’ve added for November.

Saving Max by Antoinette Van Heugten

Middle-grade reader On the Blue Comet by Rosemary Wells

and Picture book Art and Max by David Wiesner

Faith Hill – Stronger

Probably one of my top favorite songs from Faith Hill, especially on days when things are not going so well.

For September’s list of books to add to my Life Book List:

Room by Emma Donoghue

Ape House by Sara Gruen (yes, she wrote the wonderful, Water for Elephants)

Current Music Going ‘Round In My Head:

Maroon 5

The first time I saw Maroon 5 was as an opening act for Matchbox 20, high up in the nosebleed section of an arena. I feel in love, immediately, much like I did with Papa Roach at a Nickelback concert. Both were openers and frankly better than the main band I had actually paid to see.

Of course I am aware that either you hate Maroon 5 and Matchbox 20, or you love them both. There really is no in between line.

Songs About Jane (2002) was an amazing album, still is. Their acoustic and live albums are also amazing.

Although they kind of lost be when they released It Won’t Be Soon Before Long (2007) While I really felt the “California vibe” in the music I didn’t connect with the entire album like I had with Songs About Jane.

The other day, I was in my car, a rare thing it seems, and Misery came on the radio and immediately I knew it was Maroon 5. That says a lot about the attention a band can get with a distinct voice. From the single it sounds like Maroon 5 has crossed Songs About Jane with It Won’t Be Soon Before Long, which I hope helps put them back on top of the charts. It’s apparent they take their time making an album and hopefully when Hands All Over releases on 9.21 it will match the quality I loved so much back in 2002.

A documentary The White Stripes: Under Great White Northern Lights aired on TV a few days ago. And being a fan of the band and always in awe of Jack White, I was eager to watch it.

Just like in the documentary It Might Get Loud, Jack White is fascinating to listen to. His capabilities within music and his thought process is extraordinary. And does Jack White ever represent a man of musical skills, from songs with Loretta Lynn to The Rolling Stones to Alicia Keys. Not to mention his record label and store in Nashville, Third Man Records, which sells only vinyl records, and his other bands, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather.

The question is, how does Detroit produce such incredible talent?! The list of people born in Detroit is way to long to list, but maybe it’s something in the water?!

Jack White is the musician of greatness and mystery, just as Johnny Depp is to acting.
