Top Ten Movies Ever

In the past I have discussed the 80′s and 90′s movies…but I have yet to list my favorite movies of all time…ever.

Usually my standard requirements for making a movie the best ever are: southern, action and comedy combined, and has either Matthew McConaughey or Ryan Reynolds…or Kate Hudson…but not always as my list will prove.

Here are my 10 best movies ever selection:

1. Twister

2. Going the Distance

3. A Time to Kill

4. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

5. French Kiss

6. The Skelton Key

7. Away We Go

8. The Recruit

9. Easy A

10. The Client

The Blind Side…Taco Bell

The other night I finally got around to watching The Blind Side. And I not far into the movie…I lost all concern and care. Why?

Taco Bell.

In the movie, and in real life, the Tuohy family owned/s a bunch of fast food restaurants. And they are rich from doing so. Hence this is where I started to zone out from the movie and what eventually followed me to bed….

How does a company make any money from a 99 cent taco? I’ve worked at a Wendy’s before…I know all the people they have to pay, even if it is minimum wage, the cost of the building, electrical and water bills, and then the food!

I don’t eat at Taco Bell, but I am sure there are at least 3 to 5 food “products” that make their way into each item. Those 3-5 “products” must total…what….50 cents. The rest is evenly distributed to run the place??? No…that doesn’t make sense…so maybe they only spend 25 cents, 5 cents per “product” in the item. THAT can’t be healthy!! The math simply is  not adding up.

Well this got me to thinking about who is getting the shaft on this fast food deal if the owners are millionaires…

HOW ARE THESE PEOPLE MAKING MONEY OFF A 99 CENT TACO?!?!

Back to the movie…frankly…I was disappointed. Honestly I was needing a good cry!! I don’t mean to be rude…the movie was OK. Maybe my volunteer work and age has toughened my skin. Maybe not. So for those out there that didn’t get that…good-feeling-football-success-go-get ‘em feeling when you watched The Blind Side, the kind which lumps up your throat and connects to a string from your heart….may I recommend….

The Express (2008)

Hi everyone, Awesome here.

Last night Mom turned on this movie for me. At least I think she did it for me because I couldn’t stop watching it!! It was amazing!!! The movie was called Santa Buddies and it was about dogs and puppies. I didn’t really follow the story because I kept having to go outside to play in the puddles from the rain.Yes it rained! And I was running around and making a wonderfully awesome mess! Oh yes, the movie…

I learned so much from the Santa Buddies movie. At first I sat and watched it, then I barked at those dogs, then I ran up and tried to go through the front of the TV to get to them. It didn’t work, the whole TV thing is rather confusing to me.

But these Santa Buddies taught me many things.

1. how to climb a tree

2. how to knock cookies off the counter and eat them (I didn’t know I could do that!)

3. how to bust a move

4. how to roll in dirt and shake it all over the house (And I thought puddles were fun!)

5. that dogs can talk

It’s true these dogs and puppies were talking. I don’t think Dog understood either, Dog just kept tilting her head, back and forth, back and forth looking at the TV. I can type, but talk?!?!

Anyway this movie Santa Buddies is my favorite movie of all time! Mom said the movie was baaaadddddd, but how could it be!! Santa’s Buddies know it all! I learned so much. I can’t wait to use all this knowledge!

Last night I watched in The Last Song. (Don’t worry, I still watched the explosive night on Big Brother unfold, and Hot in Cleveland)

As an avid, finish any of his books in two days reader, of  Nicholas Sparks, I was of course expecting to cry during this movie. (Not to worry, I won’t give away any of the movie.)

Since I read The Last Song when it first hit shelves I’ve forgotten some parts, but did notice differences between the movie and the book, go off what I remember, although I don’t think they were important story line parts to really say it messed up the movie. Although some sentences/lines I remembered as soon as they came out of the actors mouths. I noticed that Mr. Sparks wrote the screenplay for this movie, and I’m unsure if he has written them for all his other ones.

Like all of his books turned into movies, the setting was amazing! This one was supposed to be in North Carolina per the book,  it was filmed in and around Savannah, Georgia. Reminding me why, yet again, I need to get some vacation time down there.

Now the acting wasn’t Oscar worthy, Kelly Preston was her typical character, Greg Kinnear his typical ho-hum character, and Miley Cyrus, well Mr. Sparks wrote the book with her in mind for the movie, so one would assume she did a good enough job.

And as one can assume from the title of this post, yes I cried, no surprise there. Thanks again Mr. Sparks, for making me look like a blubbering idiot.

As I continue to watch 80′s movies off my list, 90′s movies have started popping into my head. And although 90′s movies aren’t the “carefree” type of the 80′s, some were still totally cool.

Instead of starting with the best 90′s movies. I’m going to start by listing the worst 90′s movies.

#1 Four Weddings and a Funeral. My father took me to a fancy old school movie theater to see this. I remember I spent 90% of the movie counting ceiling tiles.

#2 Restoration. Now I LOVE Meg Ryan and I will watch just about any movie with her in it! Which is why my father took me to see this one. I think she was in it for all of 4 minutes. The movie, was simply, boringly awful.

#3 Sense and Sensibility. My father rented this one for me. I think I taught myself how to cross-stitch during this movie. Or started planning my suicide. Not sure which one.

Okay so, although my father is related to the three worst movies I saw in the 90′s, he actually took me to see one movie which started the acting bug inside me. (it’s not gone completely yet, but that’s another story) The movie was The Professional. I dearly wanted to play Natalie Portman’s role.

Now, there are some movies from the 90′s that weren’t too well liked by critics, but that I loved! And somehow got me into the things I love now.

  • A Far off Place (got me interesting in Africa)
  • The Client (got me interesting in the south, law, and justice)
  • Camp Nowhere (hell, this movie was just cool!)

My favorite 90′s movies that I can watch over and over and over again:

  • Baby Boom
  • What About Bob
  • The Quick and the Dead
  • Twister
  • EDTv
  • Home Alone
  • Bad Boys

Now I must mention that the 90′s was when Meg Ryan put out like one or two movies a year. She was everywhere! Her best roles were in When A Man Loves A Woman and Courage Under Fire. If you think she is typecast, those two movies prove she isn’t. I can’t watch those and not cry!

The best written movies of the 90′s were:

  • Silence of the Lambs
  • 12 Monkeys
  • Scream
  • The Shawsank Redemption

If you are looking to just watch a few short minutes of a film I’d suggest Crazy People. Just for the ad-campaigns in the movie, but the movie itself sucked.

Over the weekend I had the utter delight to watch a movie with Josh Duhamel in it. I had very low expectations as the movie wasn’t in the theater long, and hadn’t really heard anyone give it rave reviews, but I was willing to sit through it, wasting a few hours, if nothing else, because what chick doesn’t love Josh Duhamel?!?! (If you are a chick that doesn’t please stop reading my blog…you are no longer welcome around here)

The movie was When In Rome. Besides a rather meaty cast of goofy, but good actors, this movie still managed to be cheesey and predictable, but I sure didn’t care, because it was funny. (No I don’t think it was because I was drinking wine.)

I do think cheesey and predictable can still produce a good movie, as long as you don’t have expectations that it’s going to be some kind of Oscar worthy film, which most aren’t now a days, or if they are they surely don’t get the nominations they deserve.

When In Rome is about Beth (Kristen Bell) taking coins from the Fountain of Love and having the owners of the coins fall in love with her. There isn’t a dull moment of screen time as these men fall in love with her, chasing her all over New York.

Yet even with all the predictability about the movie I still had a few AHHH-HAAA moments, (okay so THAT might have been the wine). And the outtakes aren’t too shabby either. So while most of you probably won’t watch this movie, you should…

I’ve recently gotten into watching 80′s movies. It was brought about by two reasons. First because the world has become a bit of a stressful place for me at this current moment that I’m standing in, and secondly, because recently my friend and I have been enjoying the discussion of 80′s movies.

Now I’ve seen a few 80′s movies growing up, although not as many as most, because TV/movies was the official “boob tube” and therefore time in front of it was limited and monitored to my father’s best abilities. However, a lot of my movie watching delights did take place at my mom’s house.

As I searched through the lists on Netflix I discovered that many of the 80′s movies fell under the “feel-good” and “goofy” and “quirky” not to mention “romantic” and “sentimental” themes.

And as I began watching the 80′s movies, I soon discovered why. Because life wasn’t so flipping layered with stresses, rush-rush-rush, internet, evil people, complicated lives, cell phone craziness! (Of course, others must be feeling the same way, as many 80′s movies have a “long wait” on Netflix!)

Movies had creative openings, some are cartoon flooded with quirky music as they push, drop, drag, and pull the names along the screen. Actors/actresses were not pumped full of collagen, spray tans, or filled with plastic, and there was always that camera-on-the-ground-shot of a person’s legs and feet running out of the way as a car came sliding into the shot. But yes, the outfits were awful! What were we ever thinking!?

Not many movies have this “feel-good” vibe anymore. Couple’s Retreat, and Grown-Ups are the only ones that come to mind of recent years. There was one movie, that very few people saw, called New in Town (yes it has Renee Zellweger in it…sorry, but it’s still really good). So if you are in the mood to see a good, simple movie, I recommend this one. And while you are at it, get some of those other old 80′s movies, get together with friends or your kids, make homemade pizza (not frozen or delivery), make some root beer floats, throw some blankets on the floor in front of the TV, and forget about all that is going on right now and just relax.
